About Urban-2018

A National Conference on Mapping Urbanization in India from Socio-Spatial Perspectives

India in the recent years have been experiencing accelerated rate of urban growth. With compounded annual growth rate of 2.1%, India’s urban population is expected to reach 600 million in 2031 (Das, 2017). Unfortunately, inadequate housing, water supply, sewerage and drainage facilities along with urban encroachments, traffic congestion, pollution and social issues characterize urbanization in India. In an attempt to channelize this momentous growth, the Indian Government have designed policies such as the Smart City Mission, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, Swachh Bharat Mission, etc.

Academicians and researchers cannot remain immune to the changes happening around them. The conference “Mapping Urbanization in India from Socio-Spatial Perspectives” will provide an opportunity to raise issues, voice concerns, and offer solutions

  • Geospatial data to cater applications of society
  • High resolution mapping through Geomatic techniques for cities
  • GIS in Urban mapping
  • Designing smart city services by intelligent data processing
